Hey man,

I was interested in your blog as I love DJing with Traktor as well. I am pretty good at using the mouse to control it, but recently I have ordered a Numark total control to control the software. I wanted to know if you have used the total control anytime. If yes, what is your review about it. If not, which controller do you use with Traktor

Well, I am still without any hardware and have become much better at mixing with the mouse, though I still don't love it. I think I will be picking up Final Scratch very soon and running the timecode CDs on my CDJ decks! Sorry for the belated reply. Just realized when I switched over to betablogger that I had nort moderated my comments, didn't even know I had any. Gotta make soem changes to my preferences. Downloading your DnB mix now...

Wow, I almost picked a very similar DJ name as yours to correspond with my first initials - DJ BJ. Great minds abbreviate alike!

I'm very much a DJ on the cheap so I haven't invested in any gear beyond my M-Audio Evolution X-Session UC17 ($120ish CAD) and my headphones. The X-Session is a very portable USB MIDI DJ console with multifunction programmable buttons, 16 multifunction pots, and a crossfader. It's purely an input device so it relies on software to go bleep and bloop. If you're looking for something portable I say invest in a nice MIDI controller and a fast computer and let your software do the effects. I believe there are some freeware realtime VST filters out there, though they're not as robust or clean sounding as dedicated (hella expensive) hardware.

Any ideas on a hardware controller that is roadworthy?

I'm looking at the Pioneer DJM800 mixer as one possibility and the XONE 3D looks nice, though it has no fx on board and it's like $2,400US.
